Olive growers in Croatia are enjoying a strong harvest this year, with yields up and the oil quality better than in past seasons. The bounty comes with a wrinkle, as RTL Direkt examined what it might mean for the price of olive oil. The recent benchmark for the sector stands at 2024, when the country produced about 46,000 hectolitres according to the state statistics bureau. Even that output was not enough, and last year Croatia imported more olive oil than it produced for the first time. A crop like this year's would normally ease the pressure that pushed imports above domestic supply in the first place. Growers hope the strong season translates into real income after the market's recent swings. Consumers will want to see the surplus reflected on shop shelves rather than absorbed elsewhere.
