Voters in two Istanbul districts will return to the polls on October 10. The Istanbul Governor's Office announced that elections for deputy mayor will be held that day in both Ataşehir and Eyüpsultan. The vote became necessary after each district lost its municipal leader to arrest. Eyüpsultan Mayor Mithat Bülent Özmen and Ataşehir acting mayor Murat Güneş were detained and removed from their posts over investigations launched against them. With the top jobs vacant, neither municipality currently has an elected mayor in place. The ballots will now decide who takes charge of day-to-day municipal business in the two districts.
