Oruç Reis Girne’ye ulaştı: KKTC’de doğalgaz hattı tam gaz
The Oruç Reis seismic research vessel has reached waters off Girne as survey work continues on a planned undersea natural gas pipeline between Turkey and Northern Cyprus. The route runs 97 kilometers beneath the seabed and is meant to carry Turkish gas across to the island. Engineers have drawn up the project as two separate lines rather than one pipe. Once built, the system would give Northern Cyprus a direct supply of natural gas. Turkish officials have also tied the project to a larger goal: moving resources from deposits in the region toward European markets. Seismic studies come first because crews need detailed maps of the seabed before pipe-laying operations can begin. The vessel's arrival off Girne shows the plan has moved from paper into fieldwork.
