Pakistan observes the fifth death anniversary of nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan today. Khan, remembered at home as the father of the country's atomic program and honored as a national hero, died in October 2021 after a long illness. Political and social organizations have arranged condolence gatherings to mark the date, with Thatha Sadiqabad among the towns hosting events. Speakers at these meetings will offer special prayers for the late scientist and recount the services he rendered to the nation. Admirers have gathered at his grave in Islamabad each year since his death, often joined by officials and party leaders. Outside Pakistan his legacy carries a heavier shadow because of the proliferation network he later admitted to, but his domestic standing has barely dimmed. For the organizers marking today's anniversary, the emphasis stays on tribute, prayer and gratitude.
