US President Donald Trump has called the choice for the Nobel Peace Prize disgraceful, arguing the award should have gone to him instead of the winner, Navi Pillay. His remarks were carried by the Nigerian news outlet Punch. Trump has long made clear he believes he deserves the honour, frequently citing peace efforts he takes credit for. The outburst fits a familiar pattern, as he has often accused the Nobel committee of overlooking him. The committee keeps its deliberations secret and does not typically respond to such criticism. It is far from the first time he has attacked the institution over the prize.
