An investigation has been opened against Ümit Özlale, MP for the Yeni Party in İzmir, and Cemal Enginyurt, a deputy from İstanbul. The move followed a criminal complaint filed by Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş. In her petition, the minister said the deputies had targeted her and her family over claims concerning funds. She named three men in the complaint: Özlale, Enginyurt and Ali Mahir Başarır, the deputy for Mersin. So far the probe has formally started against two of them, with no word on any proceedings involving Başarır. She framed the fund claims as a deliberate effort to smear not only her office but her household as well. Prosecutors will now weigh whether the complaint justifies charging the deputies.
