Spain's National Day was marked this weekend in the center of Riga. On Saturday 10 October, events took place around the Freedom Monument, one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. A flower-laying ceremony opened the proceedings. A military parade followed, with a static exhibition of military hardware set up nearby for the public to view. Latvia's Ministry of Defence confirmed the details to the news portal Delfi. Spain's national day officially falls on 12 October, and ceremonies held abroad often shift to the nearest weekend. Foreign troops parading through central Riga made for an unusual sight downtown.
