Malta Employers have told the Prime Minister that the economy should chase value rather than growth counted purely in heads. Director General Kevin J Borg argued the country needs balanced and intelligent growth, not expansion measured only by population and headcount. The association's proposals, he stressed, do not push austerity. Instead, they call for a smarter allocation of existing resources and a bigger push on skills development. Borg also wants the country to cut its reliance on importing more workers to fill every vacancy. His argument is that adding people without lifting productivity does little for living standards. The message puts the employers' body in open disagreement with an economic model built heavily on foreign labour.

Id-Direttur-Ġenerali Kevin J Borg qal li l-pajjiż jeħtieġ tkabbir bilanċjat u intelliġenti, u li l-proposti tal-assoċjazzjoni mhix tippromwovi awsterità iżda qed titlob allokazzjoni aħjar ta' riżorsi u żvilupp tal-ħiliet, u titnaqqas id-dipendenza fuq l-importazzjoni ta' aktar ħaddiema.
