Guyana’s independence fighter Eusi Kwayana dies
Eusi Kwayana, one of the last remaining figures from Guyana's independence era, died on Saturday at the age of 101. He was among the activists who fought for every adult in the country to have the vote. Independence itself, along with the rule of law, stayed on his list of causes for decades. He also fought corruption and defended the welfare of working people. He was counted among the few who remained from that wave of campaigners. Journalist Denis Chabrol reported his death in an item updated on Saturday evening, October 10, 2026. Few people in Guyana's public life carried firsthand memory of campaigns that ended more than half a century ago.
