Malaysia's Road Transport Department has acted against the Chery Omoda 5 after a rear axle came off one of the SUVs in Johor Bahru last week. Failures of that kind are rare enough to draw immediate scrutiny of the model. JPJ says it will suspend the vehicle's Type Approval certificate on a temporary basis, removing the official clearance that lets the car be sold. Registration of new Omoda 5 units has been postponed until further notice. That leaves dealers with stock they cannot put on the road for now. Inspectors will want to know what caused the failure and whether the same fault could surface elsewhere in the fleet. Owners of cars already running are waiting to hear whether checks or repairs will be ordered.
