St Mary's have ended their long wait for Sligo senior football championship glory. The club beat Shamrock Gaels in the county final to land the title that had eluded them for years. The drought had grown uncomfortable, with supporters watching other sides lift the cup season after season. Shamrock Gaels stood in the way on the day, but the trophy is headed back to St Mary's. The final whistle set off celebrations that looked years in the making. For older members and long-standing fans, the win carries a weight that goes beyond the result on the scoreboard.
