Manchester City put their off-field troubles aside and beat a Liverpool side reduced to ten men 3-0. It was the club's first match since it was found guilty of more than 100 breaches of Premier League financial rules. The verdict has left the club uncertain about what sanctions may follow, with a fine or a points deduction among the possibilities. City's players channelled that pressure into a commanding display on the pitch. Liverpool's task grew harder once they went down to ten men, and City made the extra space count. Fans inside the stadium cheered a result that steadies the mood around the club while the wider case plays out. Attention will now turn back to the disciplinary process and whatever penalty the Premier League decides to impose.
