Joseph O’Brien enjoys Naas treble as Gavin Cromwell toasts another Pardubicka success
Joseph O'Brien had an afternoon to remember at Naas, sending out three winners on a single card. The treble capped a strong stretch for his yard, which keeps delivering results on home cards. Away from Ireland, fellow trainer Gavin Cromwell was toasting success of a different order in the Czech Republic. Cromwell landed the Velká Pardubická again, adding the storied cross-country steeplechase at Pardubice to the victory his stable already collected there. The race is one of the most demanding tests in all of jump racing, its enormous fences and open terrain regularly claiming seasoned chasers. Coming through it more than once suggests the preparation behind the results is no accident. The two stories gave Irish racing a satisfying weekend, one at a modest track and one on far ground. For the crowds at Naas, several of O'Brien's winners are likely to be marked down for bigger targets later in the season.
