The signature campaign for the release of Alexandros Giotopoulos keeps growing, and 117 more citizens have added their names. They signed a text demanding the immediate release of the man convicted as the leader of the November 17 terrorist organization, which killed 23 people in Greece between 1975 and 2000. The letter, titled Immediate Release of Alexandros Giotopoulos, cites a ruling by the Council of Appeals Judges of Piraeus on 21 May 2026 approving a request he had filed. It brands Giotopoulos a political prisoner and calls on the state to free him at once. The organizers keep publishing the full text together with the growing list of signatories. Giotopoulos was arrested in 2002 and sentenced the following year to multiple life terms over the group's assassinations and bombings. The petition feeds a long-running argument in Greece over whether people convicted in that case should ever be released early.
