Police in Istanbul's Başakşehir district caught a passenger who traveled dangling out of a moving car. The stunt was spotted in traffic, where a person hanging from a vehicle poses an obvious risk to himself and to anyone driving nearby. Officers intercepted the car and wrote fines totaling 13,627 lira, with the bill split between the driver and the passenger. The vehicle was also barred from traffic, meaning the owner has to settle the penalty before it can legally return to the road. Turkish traffic rules hold drivers accountable for what happens around their cars, which is why both people in this case paid. Such episodes get treated seriously because a slip at speed can turn a prank into a fatal accident within seconds. The fines and the traffic ban are meant to make that point impossible to miss.
