Residents of Sawbridgeworth managed to see off a traveller 'land grab' over the bank holiday weekend, after the police had failed to act. The stand-off, fuelled by prosecco and cake, came to a head in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday. Nina Johnson-Marshall, a senior planning enforcement officer, was rushed through Hertfordshire under a blue-light police escort. In the end, the town's well-heeled locals achieved what officers could not.
