Alex de Minaur has charged into the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters, reaching the last eight with another strong display. The result hands him a quarter-final against Alexander Zverev. Zverev carries a big serve and a high ranking, so the Australian will start as the underdog. De Minaur's run also strengthens his bid for a place at the ATP Finals, the season-ending event reserved for the top eight in the race. He has made that field before, and a deep week in Shanghai would bank the points to send him back. His game, built on speed and retrieving, tends to travel well on the Shanghai hard courts.
