Flood water has killed eight people in Turkey, and one more person is still listed as missing. Istanbul took the worst damage, with a single day of rain dumping an amount of water on the city not recorded there since 1942. Streets and underpasses filled up fast, and parts of the transport network had to be suspended. Downpours on that scale simply outrun the drainage, and the city paid for it. Rescue crews worked through flooded districts as reports of trapped residents came in. The confirmed toll could still climb while the search for the missing person continues.
