NMA urges Bauchi, FG to improve doctors’ conditions to stem brain drain
The Nigerian Medical Association has called on the Bauchi State Government and the Federal Government to improve conditions for doctors. The association warned that a rising number of Nigerian physicians are leaving the country for better-paid jobs abroad. Low pay, heavy workloads, insecurity and shortages of basic equipment are among the reasons they give for going. Hospitals left without specialists struggle to maintain care, especially in rural areas. The NMA wants concrete steps on better pay, safer workplaces, modern equipment and general welfare to keep doctors at home. Without such measures, the association argues, the health system will keep losing its most experienced personnel. Bauchi's leadership now faces pressure to show that state-level action can complement federal policy.
