Two men denied bail over allegedly driving wrong way down M50
Two men accused of driving the wrong way down the M50 motorway will stay behind bars after a judge refused them bail at Dublin District Court. A garda witness told the hearing that the pair were arrested following a traffic pursuit that lasted roughly 40 minutes. He described the men as caught red-handed, suggesting officers found them directly at the scene of the suspected offence. Wrong-way driving on a motorway is treated as serious because of the obvious danger to other road users travelling at high speed. Chases along the M50, Dublin's busiest orbital route, also put pursuing patrols and innocent traffic at risk. More detail on the allegations is expected as the case moves through the courts. The two accused now await their next appearance while remanded in custody.
