A severe storm that swept through Soweto on Monday ripped part of the roof off two well-known local buildings. Regina Mundi Church, one of the area's landmarks, lost sections of its roofing to the wind. Rutlwile Secondary School suffered similar damage, with portions of its roof blown away during the same storm. Repairs will now be needed at both sites, and the damage on the school grounds could interfere with normal schooling. No injuries have been reported so far, so attention centres on material losses and the clean-up. The church hosts large gatherings, which means any temporary closure would be felt well beyond its regular congregation. A full picture of the costs should emerge once inspectors assess what can be repaired and what has to be rebuilt.
