Two police vehicles chased protesters across Skanderbeg Square in central Tirana, in what was described as an attempt to scare them off and push them out of the zone. The pursuit sent demonstrators scattering across the open plaza. Euronews Albania journalist Enkelejda Mema reported that officers were using water and tear gas even against protesters who remained peaceful. There were also clashes on the steps of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet, which overlooks the square. The scenes suggest police have toughened their approach to dealing with the crowds. Skanderbeg Square has been the main gathering point for the demonstrations in the capital.
