Donald Trump has warned that the United States could share France's fate if the Democrats win the congressional elections. He tied the prediction to the mass protests now sweeping France, presenting that unrest as a preview of what a Democratic-controlled Congress would bring. He went further and claimed the Democrats 'hate Western civilization,' in his words. The remarks were carried by NUR.KZ, which cited the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti. Trump has leaned on images of foreign turmoil before to sharpen his warnings for domestic audiences. Congressional control determines how much of his agenda can actually move into law, which is why the stakes in these races run high. Whether voters buy the France comparison is a question the election itself will answer.
