ECG to begin nationwide meter audit to curb electricity theft
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is set to begin a nationwide meter audit across every area where it operates. The exercise is part of the utility's effort to reduce commercial losses and improve revenue assurance. ECG also wants the audit to identify and help curb electricity theft. Checking meters across the service territory can expose faulty equipment or consumption that has gone unbilled. Those discrepancies can deprive the company of revenue even when electricity has been supplied to customers. The nationwide design means the audit is not limited to isolated locations. Any corrective billing or enforcement action would depend on what the audit finds. The announcement does not set out a detailed timetable beyond saying that the nationwide exercise is about to begin.
