Uzbekistan hosted an international cotton conference in Tashkent, drawing delegates from more than 30 countries. Representatives of international organizations and national delegations reviewed recent changes in the cotton sector. The sharp rise in Uzbekistan's harvest yields was their main focus. Agriculture Minister Ibrohim Abdurahmonov used a '5D' framework to explain the country's strong harvest results. He also set out eight rules for guiding development and assessing results in the industry. International organizations rated the country's performance highly. Their praise came with a warning that higher production must create more value, not just more output. The government now faces the task of turning increased harvests into higher-value production rather than relying on volume alone.
