Sudanese columnist Hajar Suleiman has alleged that a citizen was subjected to extortion for $155 million by a senior figure in the Sovereignty Council. In a sharply worded article, she called the case a major scandal and one of the gravest matters in Sudan’s history. She argued that the alleged abuse showed how state institutions can turn against the people they are meant to protect. The citizen was named as Ahmed Wansi, although the published text gives little detail about the alleged demand for money. Suleiman appealed to Sovereignty Council president Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Lieutenant General Ahmed Salih Abboud, whom she described as the new secretary-general, to deliver justice. Her appeal was framed as a demand for accountability when, in her view, the state itself had become the aggressor. The column presents Suleiman’s allegation, and the excerpt provides neither independent evidence nor an official response.
