Frontex spotted a boat carrying 55 migrants south of Ierapetra on the southern coast of Crete. A Frontex aircraft located the vessel during an aerial patrol. A coast guard patrol boat then responded and took the migrants aboard. The available report does not state their nationalities or how many were men, women or children. It also gives no account of the condition of the boat or whether anyone needed medical treatment. The rescue site was described simply as south of Ierapetra rather than by a set of coordinates. No information was included about what happened to the passengers after they were transferred or whether they were moved onward. The operation involved both aerial detection and a maritime recovery by the coast guard.
