It would amend the country's Fiscal Governance Law with a binding ceiling on public debt. MPs approved sending the proposal for further consideration by 49 votes to 17. Twenty-one members abstained. The measure is not yet law because the government must first provide its opinion. A final vote would follow that stage of the legislative process.
