Gold is slowly finding a place in the circular economy. Old jewelry and scrap metal can be melted down, refined and reworked into new pieces, which cuts the need for fresh mining. For India, where households hold enormous quantities of gold as ornaments, that means a large pool of metal never really leaves circulation. Recyclers and refiners are starting to treat that stock as a resource to be reused rather than a one-time extraction.
