A metallurgical complex costing about $1.8 billion is planned for the Abai region of Kazakhstan. The project at Aktogay is intended to produce as much as 300,000 tonnes of cathode copper each year. Cathode copper is refined copper ready for industrial use, making the plant a move from raw concentrate toward a finished metal. Developers expect the facility to create more than 1,000 jobs. Its proposed scale would make the complex a significant source of regional employment and copper output. The announcement does not provide a construction timetable or explain how the financing will be divided.

Металлургический комплекс в области Абай будет выпускать до 300 тысяч тонн катодной меди в год. На предприятии планируют создать более тысячи рабочих мест.
