Edo State intends to regain its former position as Nigeria’s leading rubber producer. Governor Monday Okpebholo said the government would draw on the state’s established rubber-growing history. The plan puts local processing at the center of the recovery effort. Value addition means turning raw rubber into finished or more marketable products before export or sale. That approach would retain more income within Edo’s producing region than relying on unprocessed exports. The announcement did not provide a production target, investment total or schedule for reaching the stated goal.
