With Halloween approaching, American grower Ron Wallace has shown a giant pumpkin weighing 1,431.5 kilograms, or about 3,156 pounds. The 60-year-old farmer cultivated the record-setting specimen in Rhode Island. Guinness World Records lists the vegetable as the heaviest pumpkin ever recorded. At nearly 3,200 pounds, the crop dwarfs pumpkins sold for ordinary household use. Wallace moved past the previous world record in a seven-day span, according to the account of his achievement. The timing of the reveal has placed the enormous squash at the center of this year’s Halloween pumpkin attention.
