Nored’s ‘princess’ client
Namibian electricity distributor Nored restored power to the Princess Hotel after acting chief executive Toivo Shovaleka intervened. The hotel is run by Nored board director Simeon Uahengo, and the property owed the company N$325,000. Shovaleka ordered an engineer to unblock the meter even though the debt remained unpaid. He also reprimanded the engineer for initially cutting off the service. The episode draws attention to possible preferential treatment and the use of executive authority for a connected client. The report did not say whether the outstanding amount was later repaid, and it gave no full explanation of the engineer's reasons for disconnecting the hotel.
