VHP staat stil bij 173 jaar Chinese Immigratie
The Vooruitstrevende Hervormings Partij is marking 173 years of Chinese immigration to Suriname on 20 October. The commemorative date traces back to 20 October 1853, when the first Chinese arrivals began a new chapter in the country's history. VHP said the occasion offers an opportunity to honor the sacrifices and determination of those early migrants. The party also recognizes the contribution made by the Chinese community to Suriname's development. In VHP's account, remembering the past means acknowledging both the hardship faced by the first immigrants and the endurance needed to build a life in Suriname. The commemoration connects that date in 1853 with the community's continuing presence in the country today.
