Mario Delgado, Mexico’s secretary of Education, outlined plans to strengthen the Nueva Escuela Mexicana. The review will examine how teachers are trained and how well their preparation meets the needs of the country’s schools. Textbooks will also be assessed as part of the same effort. The review will look at schools themselves, along with teacher training and teaching materials. Delgado said the process will draw on the views of more than 7,000 teachers. Their input is meant to shape decisions across the education system. The announcement did not set a timetable or name the officials who will carry out the review.
