Belarusian hydrologists expect continued changes in river levels through the weekend after recent precipitation. Separate tributaries of the Neman and Western Bug are rising by 1 to 6 centimeters a day. The sharpest increases are occurring on smaller waterways that respond quickly to runoff. Water levels in the main river channels usually change more slowly because their basins supply water over a much wider area. The weekend picture will depend on how much additional rain falls and how quickly it reaches the channels. Local forecasts remain the basis for warnings in each basin. The reported rises do not by themselves amount to a nationwide flood emergency.
