Former ANC councillor Thembinkosi Mjuza is contesting Gugulethu Ward 39 in the 2026 local government elections. He is running for the Democratic Alliance, or DA, rather than the ANC, which he previously represented as a councillor. His opponent is ANC candidate Wonke Mapeyi. The election is scheduled for 4 November 2026. The head-to-head contest will determine which of the two parties takes the ward. Mjuza's candidacy gives voters a direct choice between an ANC figure and a former ANC politician now standing for the DA.
