Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manele Mal Rogerson has called on Australia to expand the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility program, known as PALM. The scheme allows workers from Pacific countries to take up jobs in Australia, including seasonal roles and placements in sectors that struggle to attract enough staff. Mal Rogerson said the government wants more employment opportunities for Solomon Islanders through the arrangement. He argued that access to Australian jobs can provide islanders with work experience, earnings and skills they can carry back home. For the Solomon Islands, the program also offers a way to connect employment and training with a limited domestic job market. The prime minister's appeal places labor mobility within broader efforts to strengthen economic ties with Australia. He did not announce a specific number of new positions, but called for sustained growth in the scheme.
