The Centre plans to mandate Advanced Emergency Braking Systems for cars starting in October 2030. Models still in production before 2030 will see the mandate take effect in October 2032. A draft notification detailing timelines for various safety features will be released soon. Officials indicated the primary focus will be on taxis. These timelines are designed to provide necessary lead time for users and the industry.
As for pre-2030 still-in production models, AEBS would mandatory from Oct 2032. The draft notification, with timelines for different ADAS safety features for cars, would be out soon, people aware of the development said, adding that focus would be more on taxis. They said the proposed timelines take into account the lead time that industry and users would need.
