A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the Xizang Autonomous Region in southwest China. This disaster resulted in 16 deaths. In response, the State Council and the Ministry of Emergency Management raised the national emergency response level from Level IV to Level III. A work team has been dispatched to the affected area.
