Gianni Infantino appears set to be re‑elected as FIFA president next year. The Asian Football Confederation has continued its support for the Swiss official, giving him an apparent majority of votes. This backing strengthens Infantino’s position ahead of the election. The European federation UEFA and the Dutch football association have become further isolated as a result. Their isolation reflects the shifting alliances within world football governance.
