Customs seize ₦79m PMS, foreign rice in Adamawa
Customs officers in Adamawa State have taken a large haul of contraband off the market. The Nigeria Customs Service values the seizure, made up of smuggled Premium Motor Spirit and foreign rice among other items, at ₦79.86m in Duty Paid Value. Petrol ranks among the most commonly smuggled products in the region because prices vary sharply across nearby borders. Foreign rice travels the same underground routes, since import restrictions keep demand for the cheaper smuggled grain alive. Officers intercepted the consignments before the goods could reach open markets. Adamawa sits along corridors used for moving contraband, which keeps enforcement teams busy across the state. Publishing the seized value gives the operation a public record and sends a note of caution to those running the trade. The confiscated items now pass into the service's standard procedure for handling contraband.
