A study published in the journal Science examined more than one thousand human genomes. Researchers focused on the genetic makeup of the original settlers of two distant Pacific locations, Hawaii and Easter Island. The analysis revealed that both founding populations share a common ancestral origin. This shared lineage is linked to the island of Mangareva in the Central Pacific. The findings suggest that the same group of Polynesian navigators may have colonized both regions about a thousand years ago.
