Video material released by investigators shows the software that allegedly erased sales at Pizza Fan, the Greek pizza chain. The system is said to have deleted registered revenue so the takings never entered the official books. The operation cost the state more than 35 million euros in lost VAT and income tax. Cash that stayed off the records was then passed on in person, with handoffs taking place inside a shopping mall. The footage captures how the scheme combined software tampering with old-fashioned exchanges of banknotes. A hit of that size makes the case one of the larger single-company tax frauds Greek authorities have tackled.
