Public broadcaster RTRS has approved a one-time payment of 910,500 convertible marks for its employees. The money was secured from the Solidarity Fund and set aside specifically for this payout. The decision came after a request from the broadcaster's Independent Trade Union. RTRS had been in a difficult position because its account was blocked, the result of a lawsuit filed by BHRT. With the account frozen, routine payments and operations were thrown into doubt, which pushed the union to step in. Management agreed to the one-off support to steady the workforce's finances in the short term. The approved amount covers workers who qualify under the arrangement. Questions about exactly when the cash will reach individual accounts were not addressed in the announcement.
