HYPREP equips 120 PLWD with skills, starter packs
HYPREP has graduated 120 persons with disabilities after a vocational training programme in Ogoniland, Rivers State. Each of the trainees received a starter pack to help them set up a small business after the course. The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project runs the scheme as part of its livelihood support in the oil-affected area. Participants picked up practical skills during their time in training. Officials want the graduates to stand on their own as entrepreneurs rather than depend on handouts. The packs contain the tools and materials needed for the trades the beneficiaries learned. The handover means the new business owners can begin earning straight away. HYPREP has rolled out similar programmes while remediation work continues across Ogoniland.
