The Berlin Philharmonic came to the Teatro Colón last night and showed why the orchestra carries its reputation. The German ensemble, often named among the finest in the world, drew an extraordinary response in one of Buenos Aires' most revered halls. Visits from orchestras of this standing are rare enough that the concert had been circled on the city's cultural calendar for months. The playing mixed the precision the Philharmonic is known for with a depth of sound that filled the Colón's vast interior. Sections of the orchestra took their turns pulling reactions from a packed audience. For the Teatro Colón, the evening adds another heavyweight name to a guest list few houses can match.
