Mahama joins Ethiopian PM to inaugurate Megech Dam project
President John Dramani Mahama has travelled to Ethiopia, where he stood beside Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali to open the Megech Irrigation Development Project in the city of Gondar. The ceremony came as one of the set pieces of his official visit to the country. The project is built to channel stored water out to farmland across the surrounding district, an area where farmers have long coped with unreliable rains. Mahama's presence gave the launch the colour of a bilateral event and signalled his government's interest in Ethiopia's agricultural push. Officials in Gondar turned out in numbers for the occasion, which carried more weight than a routine provincial opening. The two leaders used the moment to stress the friendship between their governments. What else the Ghanaian delegation has lined up in Addis Ababa this week has not been fully laid out.
