Officials from Venezuela and the United States have reviewed the progress of their oil agreement, under which Washington will get access to a quarter of Venezuelan crude. As part of that review, the delegations visited a producing oil field in the state of Zulia. Venezuelan authorities said output at the site has reached 115,000 barrels. The inspection gave the US team a direct look at how much oil the field is actually delivering. Zulia matters because it sits on some of the country's oldest production basins. The visit is the latest step in a deal that ties part of Venezuela's crude flow to Washington. Both sides will apparently keep tracking output numbers to make sure the arrangement stays on course. For now, the field in Zulia has become the testing ground for whether the agreement can deliver.
