Riot police in heavy gear stopped them at the doors and pushed the crowd back. 'For the culture minister, I will request the assignment of police protection,' Macinka told iDNES.cz after the clash. He offered no detail on the threats behind the move, but the timing speaks for itself. Scenes of protesters lunging at the parliament building are rare in Czech politics, and the images spread quickly online. The government now has to handle a contested broadcasting reform and ministers who no longer feel safe in public, all at once.
